Born in Vila Real, Portugal in 1977. Sculpture at the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Porto.  Master in Fine  Piet Zwart Institute, Willem de Kooning Academy, Hogeschool Rotterdam, the Netherlands, 2003.

Teaches visual arts at the Superior School of Education, Viseu. Collaborates with the group for cultural exchange IDENTIDADES, in the project Deslocações for the Conceição das Crioulas community, Pernanbuco, Brazil.

Member of several national and international art collectives, such as ZOiNA, Caldeira 213, ROOM, CLANITICA, Ateliers Mentol, Switch Metaphors and Palindromes.

Manages the blogs All My Independent Women, on art and gender, and Porto Público on public space, politics and power; and the exhibition space “Espaço gesto”, Porto.

Exhibiting her work since 1999, on solo and collective exhibitions, she is happier when working collectively.

 Her works sometimes strikingly visible sometimes no more than a rumour is concerned on the social constructions that we make and reassert everyday, in the attempt to question and even undermine these constructions. Being those construction gender related, or about European Identity or even the privatization of the public sphere and the notion of citizenship. The viewer, participant or passer-by is normally trapped by the anodyne visual and forms of her work that usually carry less innocent content, into  pondering his values and pre-conceptions with what is presented by her work.

Paula Lopes nasceu no Porto em 1974

Em 2000 finaliza o curso de Design de Comunicação, na ESAD, Matosinhos.

No mesmo ano inicia-se na Web e Print em Braga, onde fica 5 anos. Actualmente vive e trabalha em Lisboa como Web Designer (www.view.pt).

Participou em várias exposições colectivas e individuais de pintura,  instalação de vídeo e ilustração. Mantêm relação próxima com algumas áreas, nomeadamente a fotografia, ilustração, entre outras, que introduz nas artes plásticas.

 

Paula Lopes was born in 1974, in Oporto

In 2000 finishes the degree in Communication Design, in ESAD, Matosinhos.

In the some year, start on the Web e Print in Braga City, where remains 5 years. Currently lives and works in Lisbon as a Web Designer (www.view.pt).

Participated in several collective and individual exhibitions of painting, video installation and illustration. Maintain close relationship with some areas, including photo, illustration, and others, introducing it in to the plastic arts.

Paulo Martins nasceu em 1981 e fotografa desde 1992.

Tem desenvolvido uma abordagem própria no que toca à impressão que as suas imagens transmitem sobre a pessoa fotografada. Procura realçar virtudes que estão além da aparência.

Na sua mistura de ironia e gentileza procura representar algumas camadas de intimidade das pessoas sem que se sinta intrusão nem desrespeito. O processo de aquisição pode ser imediato ou demorar muito tempo. Esta procura traz alguma solenidade teatral a momentos banais do dia-a-dia e cria uma ligação sentimental ao mundo e às pessoas que o habitam.

Actualmente fotografa maioritariamente retrato. Frequenta o Mestrado em Comunicação Audiovisual do Instituto Politécnico do Porto, especialização em fotografia documental.

É responsável pela fotografia da campanha eleitoral da Elisa Ferreira à Câmara Municipal do Porto, imagem fotográfica da escola de negócios EGP/UPBS. Fotografou para a Delta e Casa da Música entre outros.

Paulo has developed an approach with regard to the impression that his images convey about the person photographed. He looks for virtues beyond appearance.

In his mixture of irony and gentleness, Paulo seeks to represent some layers of intimacy without intrusion or prejudice. The acquisition process can be immediate or take a long time. This demand brings some theatrical solemnity the mundane moments of the day to day and creates an emotional connection to the world and the people that live in it.

Currently he is mostly a portrait photographer. Attends the Masters Degree in Communication Audiovisual of the Polytechnic Institute of Porto, specialising in documentary photography. 

Is responsible for the photographic work of the election campaign of Elisa Ferreira to the City Hall of Porto. Worked for EGP / UPBS, university of Porto Business School. Photographed for the Delta Casa da Música among others.

A fotografia como documento ou como registo de uma memória é também um exercício de mediação, ficcionado. A construção de uma narrativa a partir de fragmentos de uma realidade permite reinventá-la e reinterpretá-la. Este excertos de um possível diário fotográfico são assim mesmo. Uma mescla de realidades, suas e de outros, partilhadas e roubadas, compostas e dispostas para que se reconheçam enquanto tal.

Photography as document or as a mean to register a memory is also an exercise of mediation and fiction. Building a narrative from fragments of a reality allows reinvention and reinterpretation. These excerpts of a possible diary are just like that. A mingle of realities, yours and of others, shared and stolen, composed and arranged to be recognized as so.

Andreia Poças nasceu em 1976, em Valongo. Viveu em Braga, no Porto, em Portimão, em Beja e vive, actualmente, em Lisboa. Estudou Fotografia, na Escola Superior Artística do Porto. Estuda agora Cultura Visual e Fotografia, no IADE. Fotografa, dá aulas. Mais do que a sua própria fotografia, interessa-lhe e impressiona-a a fotografia dos outros.
